Description

The Ambassador Theatre Group’s West End Creative Learning team presents a one day U3A bespoke Directing event. Ever watched a play and thought ‘I can do that’! Well now here’s your chance. Under the guidance of three extraordinary directors, Harry Burton (Pinter documentary, Dumb Waiter Trafalgar studios etc.), Lisa Spirling (Artistic Director of Theatre503) and Jane Moriarty (The Birthday Party at Harold Pinter, Queen Anne at Her Majesty’s). You will be given the opportunity, in groups to direct a scene under the watchful eyes of one of these wonderfully thrilling directors, putting into practice valuable lessons learnt earlier on in the day and culminating in a performance involving professional actors, bringing your scene to life.

Schedule

Arriving at 10:30 am for tea, coffee and biscuits. Starting at 11.00 am

The group will be split into three and each assigned their own amazing director. Working on different extracts, the groups will be guided by their assigned director to look at various exercises that they use on a daily basis to aid their vision, with the opportunity to explore the text in smaller groups and look at the process the director will go through to get a handle on the script.

After lunch each group will be given a new piece to work on that will be exactly the same across all groups, but this time working with professional actors to put into practice (alongside the director) what has been learnt from the morning’s session. At the end of the afternoon each group will present the same piece to each other, exposing the many choices a director must make in order to carry out their vision.

16:00-16:30 each group will present their work followed by a discussion afterwards
